The Pacific Ocean at Punta el Custodio has many faces. To the south of the Point, it is majestically pacific as its waves gently lap the pristine beach that stretches to the horizon, a beach that is the egg-laying habitat of rare sea turtles. Immediately to the north, the sea batters a forbidding rocky coast, casting spray high into the air with each breaking wave. And miraculously, in a narrow corridor between these two faces, is yet a third face: world-class surfing made possible by the tidal estuary's sand bar.
